Hi all, I have a project where parts of what I’ll need to scan is very clear (basically almost glassy) ice. The partners I can involve have either a Trimble X7 or Faro (not sure, I think S70). Logistics are a bit tricky so I’d prefer to get the one involved in a test scan that has better chances of success, so I was wondering if anybody has any feedback on similar projects.
The closest I could find was a project in the Alps where a RIEGL 400i was used for scanning a cave with ice features.
Precision requirements are modest, it’s primarily about being able to reach a very remote environment and getting decent results (1.5cm at 20-30m would be sufficient). I expect a bit of noise cleanup will be required and that’s fine – last time we tried photogrammetry and that was obviously a nightmare so I was hoping IR laser scans would give better results.
Thanks, and happy holidays!
