for Evanston Main Street Improvement Project.

SPRINGFIELD, IL, Dec 13, 2024 – The American Council of Engineering Companies of Illinois awarded RINA North America (former Patrick Engineering Inc.)  and the City of Evanston, Illinois, a Special AchievementAward for the Evanston Main Street Improvements – Maple Avenue to Hinman Avenue project.

The project revitalized the Main Street Central Business District corridor, addressing pedestrian safety, pavement conditions, streetscape appeal, traffic signals, street lighting, green infrastructure, and underground utilities. These improvements enhanced accessibility and safety for vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians.

RINA served as the design and construction engineer, using innovative techniques to meet ADA design criteria and manage stormwater with permeable pavers. The project also improved traffic flow and promoted bicycle safety. New sidewalks, brick banding, tree grates, and landscaping further enhanced the streetscape.

Strong community engagement ensured stakeholders’ needs were addressed. The project was recognized for sustainable design, including permeable pavers and tree preservation.

Completed under budget at $8.4 million, the project secured over $2.8 million in grants, reducing financial costs for the City of Evanston. It was finished ahead of schedule, demonstrating the engineering team’s dedication and efficiency.

Sat Nagar, senior project manager with the City of Evanson Public Works Agency, said, “The Evanston Main Street Improvement Project exemplifies the positive impact of thoughtful engineering and community collaboration, making the area safer, more accessible, and vibrant for all Businesses and residents.”
