Meta’s messaging app, WhatsApp, will end its support for of the old Android and iOS devices soon. These approximately 35 handsets are from different brands including Samsung, Apple, Motorola, Sony, LG and Huawei. Users who own these devices are advised to back up their chat history ahead of the deadline to avoid any loss of data. I don’t know about android, but on iOS the current requirement is iOS12 and newer, from 5 May 2025, only iOS 15.1 and newer will be supported. So basically any iPhone after the iPhone 6 and 6Plus, will be supported.
The articles stating iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, 1st SE, will not supported are wrong.
Phones that came out ten years ago
Ha ha. Probably Android 4/5/6 OS phones. Thats like ancient phones. Who even has those now. Battery must have stopped charging years back on these devices.
Sometimes we do not realize this but a large number of users (rural India) are still on much older versions of Android. This data is as of few days ago from one of the mobile apps with a million+ user base. Almost 3% of users are on an OS which was released more than 6 years ago. Its tempting to disregard them and expect them to upgrade coz building apps for older OS is a pain. For whatsapp the percentage may be even higher as it is probably the first app that gets installed by everyone these days.
