AMD Expands AM4 CPU Line-up By Introducing Several Ryzen 5005G APUs Based On Zen 3 Architecture
AMD has expanded its Zen 3 “AM4” APU line-up with six more SKUs, featuring up to 8 cores and 16 threads in the Ryzen 5005G series.
AMD is not yet done with the AM4. As soon as we think it’s over, AMD comes up with more and more processors for this 8-year-old platform. Looks like AMD still has plenty of leftover silicon to produce more Zen 3 chips and this time it is debuting the ‘Ryzen 5005G’ series, which comprises APUs.
AMD has silently added several Ryzen 5005G SKUs to its Ryzen 5000 series table and now the total CPU count in this particular series is 25. Out of 25 CPUs, six are from the Ryzen 5005G series. AMD made sure that each subseries receives two SKUs, targeting different budget segments.
As you can see, AMD has released G and GE variants for both mainstream and power-efficient setups. The GE variants are rated at just 35W while the G variants feature the default TDP of 65W, which is found on most budget and mid-range Ryzen 5000 CPUs. Therefore, even though specs like Cores/Threads, iGPU, etc. are identical, the base clock is lower on the GE variants.
AMD Ryzen 7 5705G is technically Ryzen 7 5700G but the only difference we can see from AMD’s table is that it doesn’t reveal if the 5705G will come with a stock heatsink. All the specs are identical and this is exactly how AMD went with other Ryzen 5005G parts, including the Ryzen 5605G, which is nothing but Ryzen 5600G in core specs, and the Ryzen 3 5305G resembles the Ryzen 3 5300G completely.
The date of availability and pricing hasn’t been disclosed yet, but since the Ryzen 8000G series is already available on the market, the Ryzen 5005G should be comparatively cheaper. AMD’s Ryzen 5005G will serve as entry-level APUs for systems that don’t require high graphical computing power and will be sufficient for basic operations.
Apart from casual work, the Ryzen 5005G can also play non-intensive games, but one shouldn’t expect a smooth gaming experience since Vega iGPU can’t compete with modern budget or mid-range GPUs. Considering AM4 motherboards are still abundantly available in the market, including the A520 and B450/B550 chipsets, the Ryzen 5005G series is excellent for cost-effective systems and can be used in PCs to keep the cost under $500.
