Hello nerds.
I’m an engineer that’s starting to learn the wonderful world of metrology as my workplace is attempting to become ISO certified. My task right now is to go through the entire shop and calibrate all the calipers to ASME B89.1.14. I have a question about max permissable error.
Our 18″ and 24″ calipers, which both have an accuracy of +- 0.002″, list EMPEs of +-0.002″ and SMPEs of +-0.003. The standard’s table of MPEs is stepwise based on measured length.
Would I just use the calipers listed MPEs for all length measurements? They seem kind of tight for such long calipers.
