Making an otter work

I’ve had a Creality Otter for about a week, and I am really struggling to get good scans other than the “test owl”. The test owl is absolutely and some may say suspiciously flawless, yet everything else I have put in front of the scanner has been a glitchy mess of lost tracking and poor results. I have tried tracking dots, turntables, 3d tracking markers and just about every setting in the application but haven’t had a single good result. I purchased the scanner to speed up designs of parts for 3D printing and so far I haven’t managed to get a single usable scan and have just ended up resorting to “old fashioned measuring” if I need a part. Is this a bit of “Samsung AI trickery” or is there a knack to this that all of the YouTube videos gloss over? My PC has 32gb of ram and a 4070 super so not lacking in horsepower!
