According to the media sources, Apple is seriously considering adding induction coils on both sides of the MacBook Pro’s trackpad, allowing the laptop to charge the iPhone directly wirelessly.
To this end, Apple has accumulated a variety of patented technologies. As early as 2018, Apple submitted a coil deployment patent; since then, it has continuously improved and even applied for relevant patents for housing materials.
Well, Apple applies for countless patents every year, and some patented technologies are only protective, which does not mean Apple will turn all patents into products. However, if Apple continues to apply for patents in a particular field, it is most likely a sign that Apple is serious.
For wireless charging of mobile phones with laptops, Apple has been laying out for a long time. Of course, this feature sounds interesting, but it comes with some challenges in terms of practical use. Placing the iPhone next to the touchpad will affect the use of the notebook; after all, the size of the phone is too large. However, that would not be a concern for the watch and earphone case.
At the same time, Apple also has to consider the charging power; with Apple’s highest 25W wireless charging power, the charging speed is comparable to wired charging, but users need to endure the inconvenience caused by using the mobile phone for a long time. And wireless charging will definitely have an impact on the battery life of the MacBook Pro.
Of course, this technology is still in the stage of Apple’s imagination, and even if Apple wants to use it, it may not be able to support it until next year’s new product.
