Hello! Need help determining what kind of 3D scanning services I need for my project.

Hello all! I am looking for help understanding 3D scanning and what kind of services would help my business. Hopefully this is okay to post 🙂 (This is not for my own business, I’m just an employee)

I work at a furniture rental company that specializes in trade shows and events, and our clients are design houses who are the ones who design company booths. Our clients use CAD files to create 3D mock ups of the proposed booths, and have told us that if we had CAD files of our furniture it would be easier for them to send orders our way.

We are a small business, less than 15 people. I am the office manager, the only one with any kind of computer skills (I have taken many graphic design classes while in art school but my skills are limited to photoshop/illustrator/indesign) and I manage our website/catalog/digital files.

We would like to get all our furniture scanned and then turned into CAD files, to be sent to our clients for their use. I do not know what programs they use, but from my understanding as long as the files are CAD it should be okay? Our products are mostly tables and chairs but we do have things like sofas and wall partitions. Whatever files we get, I need to be able to manage them. We have ~150 individual products that would need to be scanned.

Can anyone give me a run down of what to look for in a company that offers 3D scanning services? What kind of scanning/service would we need? Or suggest a company that I could reach out to. We are in the Chicagoland area and would need the scanning to be done on-site. What kind of programs would we need for managing that CAD files? Many of the companies I am finding speak about scanning large machinery/cars/blueprints/reverse engineering and I’m just not sure what would be appropriate for our needs.

Originally my boss wanted to purchase a scanner and have me do the whole project myself, but that feels like a massive undertaking that’s completely outside of my wheelhouse and that would not be time or cost efficient.

Thank you so much for your help everyone!!! Sorry for the wall of text, but this whole thing has been very overwhelming to dive into and I figured where else to ask this stuff other than Reddit?
