Fugro and Autodesk unveil software integration for smarter, safer construction

Fugro and Autodesk have partnered and launched Fugro’s GeoDin Ground plugin for Autodesk’s Civil 3D software.

GeoDin is a comprehensive geotechnical data management software that consolidates various types of subsurface data collected during construction processes. Autodesk is a global leader in building information modelling (BIM) technology for the architecture, engineering, construction, and operations industry. This integration represents the next big step in bringing better data to our customers, enhancing the accuracy and efficiency of asset development.

The GeoDin Ground plugin ensures engineers have critical geotechnical insights, including comprehensive data generated from ground drilling and cone penetration tests (CPTs), right at their fingertips. This allows for optimising foundation designs and significantly reducing project risks due to unforeseen ground conditions. GeoDin also ensures that the database is automatically compliant with the local regulations of the country in which it is used, providing a “single source of truth” for all subsurface data.

Knowledge of the ground is often lacking during the design phase of construction, despite its crucial role in ensuring efficient and safe designs as ground conditions show often high variability. Civil 3D customers have indicated that over 50% of organisations currently separate critical geotechnical data from their engineering design processes. This leads to inefficiencies such as over-engineering or redesigns when ground conditions require different decisions.

Wim Herijgers, Group Director Strategy and Transformation of Fugro, stated, “This partnership with Autodesk not only enhances the precision of engineering projects but also supports our commitment to advancing sustainable and safe construction practices. A perfect example of Fugro unlocking insights from Geo-data for a safe and liveable world.”

“The Autodesk collaboration with Fugro and the integration of their advanced Geo-data capabilities into Civil 3D exemplifies our dedication to providing industry-leading solutions that drive innovation and efficiency,” said Dan Lohmeyer, VP Building and Infrastructure Design at Autodesk.
