Produced from recycled feedstock, EOS AlSi10Mg is intended to reduce CO2 emissions and enhance sustainability.

Additive manufacturing supplier and service provider, EOS, has announced that one of what the company claims to be its most popular metal materials, EOS Aluminium AlSi10Mg, is now produced with 100% recycled feedstock. According to the company, this has resulted in a 77% reduction of carbon dioxide emissions compared to the prior material as well as an 83% reduction compared to AlSi10Mg made from 100% virgin raw material.
EOS Aluminium AlSi10Mg was first added to the company’s Responsible Products portfolio in April 2024 when it began incorporating 30% recycled feedstock for a 25% reduction in carbon dioxide emissions. Although EOS Aluminium AlSi10Mg now employs 100% recycled feedstock, the company avers that the resulting material maintains the same properties, characteristics and performance in additively manufactured parts, ensuring existing customers do not need to requalify applications.
Here are the EOS Aluminium AlSi10Mg specifications, according to the company:
- Chemical composition standard: AlSi10Mg
- Ultimate tensile strength: 460 MPa
- Yield strength: 245 MPa
- Elongation at break: 5%
- Good thermal and electrical conductivity with possibility of heat treatment
“We’re proud to have developed our first EOS metal material made with 100% recycled feedstock and to have achieved so much in less than a year,” said Sophia Heyl, product specialist at EOS in a press release. “We will continue to explore ways to reduce the carbon footprint of our customers‘ applications with every EOS product – from materials and hardware to design optimization – they all add up to a more responsible end-use product for our customers and the climate.“
Other EOS Responsible Products include:
- VIRTUCYCLE, a used polymer material take-back program which takes used polymer material and components and uses sustainably sourced energy to transform AM powder into recycled high-performance injection molding granules.
- PA 1101, “climate-neutral” polymer material that are biobased with greenhouse gas emissions offset via carbon credits.
- PA 2200 CarbonReduced polymer materials with reduced greenhouse gas emissions via green energy use in the production process.
- The EOS Carbon Calculator considers AM project carbon emissions with key cost metrics to provide an estimation of the organization’s additive manufacturing carbon dioxide emissions and expenses.
