Content Catalog Introduces Rhinoceros 3D Plug-in

We are excited to announce the launch of Content Catalog’s Rhinoceros 3D plug-in, an advanced web-based integration between Content Catalog and Rhinoceros 3D (Rhino).

Now designers and architects using Rhino, a design authoring tool, will be able to store and manage all their 3D content from a centralized location in Content Catalog. Content Catalog, an Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC)-integrated digital asset management tool, enables users to easily manage, distribute, and find the most up-to-date versions of BIM content, like Revit families, AutoCAD blocks, and now Rhino 3D models.

With the Rhino integration, Autodesk demonstrates its continued commitment to supporting open workflows across both Autodesk and non-Autodesk tools to increase efficiency and reduce rework for the AEC industry. Content Catalog already enables customers to upload and manage almost any file type and the launch of this dedicated plug-in will further enhance customers’ ability to centralize and search across all their vetted design assets and associated data in a single location.

Why use Content Catalog?

Architecture companies often rely on a variety of design and construction tools, such as AutoCAD, Rhino, and Revit, to create their projects. Sharing and reusing the digital assets and data that are leveraged across those projects can be difficult, particularly when transitioning between different platforms. In fact, designers often recreate the same asset – for example, a chair or a wall system – from project to project.  Team members also frequently struggle to locate the most up-to-date versions of design assets and associated data across tools and local file systems.

Without a centralized content management tool, users grapple with not only content fragmentation, but also interoperability issues, version control, and collaborating effectively with team members.

Content Catalog, a centralized content management system, helps eliminate fragmented data and enables smoother workflows by repurposing digital assets across platforms. This web-based system helps customers to easily manage, distribute, and locate the most up-to-date versions of their BIM content. The result? Improved efficiency, quality control, and seamless project management.

Thanks to advancing interoperability between Rhino and Autodesk’s design authoring tools, like Revit and AutoCAD, customers can now continue effectively working on multiple design tools of their choice – all while unifying their design assets in one location.

Architecture firms leveraging Rhino as part of their design process can now locate their content in one place. Rhino-loving designers can easily continue creative workflows with no disruption using the Content Catalog integration.

Autodesk Revit, Civil 3D, and AutoCAD compatibility

In addition to Rhino, Revit, Civil 3D, and AutoCAD plugs-ins can also easily be installed and searched within Content Catalog. Accessing these tools is quick, fast, and simple. Users can collaborate across a singular workflow that is open and accessible instead of disparate and fragmented. What’s more, existing Docs subscribers can use Content Catalog with no additional cost.
