So I entered this hobby at pretty much the lowest price point (~£200), bought a 3DMakerPro Moose Lite for a specific purpose (making a bespoke top to a broken vase) and got a good enough scan to model something up in Blender. Considering what I paid the limitations I saw were annoying but acceptable, and whilst I know that more expensive scanners offer a better experience I’m unlikely to be scanning things regularly and will probably wait a few years for the tech to get better (and cheaper) before making any significant investments.
I’m looking to get a cheap wireless camera grip to control the acquisitions, JMStudio has configurable keyboard shortcuts so it should be fairly simple to control some functions. Equally it’s possible to use a macropad or secondary software if the keypresses are more advanced.
I’m already using some aligned laser guides that converge at the optimum scanning distance so I don’t need any advanced feedback like the smart grip offers, just the basic start/stop should be fine.
