Americans Check Phones 205 Times Daily—Try Black & White Mode to Ease Eye Strain!

According to a survey conducted by reviews.org in the United States, respondents checked their phones an average of 205 times a day, a significant increase of 42.3% compared to 144 times in 2023. In other words, checking your phone every 7 minutes shows that smartphones have become an integral part of many people’s lives.

The 205 phone checks involved a variety of daily situations; for example, 80.6% of respondents checked their phones within 10 minutes of waking up. Another 65.7% still use their mobile phones when using toilets, and 53.7% use their mobile phones to send messages to people in the same room. Moreover, 38.1% of people use their mobile phones when they are dating, and 27% check or operate their mobile phones while driving, reflecting that people’s mobile phone dependence has spread to every corner of their lives.

Americans check their phones within 10 minutes

Millennials (29 to 44 years old) check their phones the most per day, averaging 324 times and spending 6 hours and 2 minutes using them. This figure may indicate that this group needs to deal with more work-related information. Gen Z (13 to 28 years old) checks their phones less every day, but they spend an average of 6 hours and 18 minutes a day, which is longer, accounting for almost a quarter of the day, showing that this generation is highly dependent on mobile phones.

The survey found that 76% of respondents would check the notification within 5 minutes after receiving the mobile phone notification, which is difficult to resist the demand for real-time response brought by the message, further highlighting the dominance of mobile phones in their lives.

How cell phone habits changed in 2024

The report makes a simple but effective recommendation for mobile phone addiction: adjust your phone screen to black and white. Black and white mode can reduce the visual stimulation of colors, reduce people’s desire to watch mobile phones, or effectively improve overuse and return people to a more balanced lifestyle.
