Hey everyone,
I am trying to figure out what would be the best option when it comes to choosing a robust workhorse for reverse engineering in automotive. I work in a professional environment (just to differentiate from a hobby perpective). I am a bit all over the place and feel a bit overwhelmed by the amount of choices in the market. Hopefully you will be able to help me out and thanks in advance.
To give a good example, I need something that can cover high accuracy for braking system scans to reverse enginner the parts. At the same time, I need to be able to scan large sufaces such as the front end and underside of the car without losing much details (if not maybe even scan the whole car).
I have gone through this subreddit and I understood that both the scanner and the software used to render/process the data are important.
I have also noticed that prices ranges are crazy. I do not think that I will need a scanner that exceeds the $15k mark. Maybe I do, I cant say I know for sure. Honestly this estimation comes from checking the market and noticing certain trends in the pricing with what I expect would work for my case.
Also the high number of companies, models and their variants puts me in a place that I undrstand the question ”what do you need the scanner for?” even less.
When it comes to the amount of experience that I have in 3D scanning, I would say it is not much. I have scanned a couple of stuff using ARTEC Eva, but nothing excceding 20cm in size and nothing as intricate as mechanical car parts.
As I mentioned, I am a bit all over the place and in need of much guidance. Anything that could help me figure out what I need would be great. Thanks again and take care
