What do people think about calibrating pin sets vs uncalibrated pin sets and requiring pin size verification with calibrated micrometers before each use?
For context I work at a research company not manufacturing and we have about 10..ish pin sets and one or two pins per set always seem to fail calibration when we send them out. They are used maybe a dozen times a year (each set not pin) on mostly plastic molded parts to sanity check CMM results and they live in a climate controlled metrology lab. The amount of failures I see makes me think the calibration house is not able to measure to the resolution they claim and therefor are submitting erroneous pass/fail results. My position is why calibrate them at all when you can CYA with verifying size with calibrated micrometers. I could be way off here and I’m just wondering what other people are doing.
