Advice Needed on Stitching Scans from an Interstitial Space (Using SCENE)

Hi All,

I’m a mechanical engineer currently working on stitching a 3D scan project from an industrial facility that I completed this past week. I’m fairly new to 3D scanning and stitching, and I’m looking for advice from those with more experience.

The project involved scanning an interstitial space with two levels. Access to the bottom level was only possible through a small hole and a ladder, so I performed scans in the areas surrounding and on top of the ladder for both levels. I now need to connect the scans from the top and bottom levels into a single model but am running into challenges.

I’ve been trying to use the interactive registration feature in SCENE to align the scans, but I haven’t been successful. I’m wondering if I’m approaching this incorrectly or if there are better techniques I could try.

Has anyone worked with similar interstitial spaces or challenging multi-level scans before? If so, how would you recommend connecting scans like these? Is there a specific workflow or feature in SCENE that would work best?

I appreciate any advice or guidance you can provide. Thanks in advance!
