SpaceX Introduces Affordable Starlink ‘Residential Lite’ Plan at $80/Month

SpaceX has launched a new Starlink “Residential Lite” service plan priced at US$80 per month, which is one-third cheaper than the current monthly fee of US$120 for a standard residential plan. However, the new plan will have a slower internet speed, making it suitable for smaller households with low data needs. This offer is currently limited to certain U.S. states and territories; not all U.S. In addition, users who choose the Residential Lite plan will also have the opportunity to purchase the standard Starlink receiving antenna at a special price of US$149, which will end on March 31.

🔹 Price: $80/month (compared to $120 for the standard plan)
🔹 Availability: Limited to select U.S. states and territories
🔹 Special Discount: Standard Starlink antenna for $149 (offer valid until March 31)

SpaceX says the Residential Lite service is designed for households with low data usage, with download speeds ranging from around 50 to 100Mbps, significantly slower than the 150 to 250Mbps of a standard Residential plan. That said, Residential Lite still offers unlimited data, but the system will have a lower network priority for these users. In a support document, SpaceX emphasized that this arrangement means that users’ connection speeds may be further reduced during busy periods, especially if the network is prioritized later than those who choose the standard Residential plan.

In short:

  • Residential Lite Speed: 50-100 Mbps download speeds
  • Standard Residential Speed: 150-250 Mbps download speeds
  • Unlimited Data: Yes, but with a lower network priority than standard users

⚠️ Important Note: Lite users may experience slower speeds during peak hours than standard plan users due to priority-based bandwidth allocation.

SpaceX was the first to launch the Residential Lite service plan in some overseas markets last year, and this time, it officially introduced it to the US market, which hopes to expand its potential user base. With more than 5 million subscribers to its Starlink satellite network to date, SpaceX expects to attract users who don’t need much speed but want a stable satellite network connection with these new and less expensive options.

SpaceX also revealed that users in designated Residential Lite service coverage areas who decide to join the new program can enjoy an additional US$200 “regional discount”, allowing eligible users to purchase the Starlink standard antenna for just $149.

🔹 Offer Deadline: March 31
🔹 Availability: Only in designated Residential Lite service areas
🔹 Future Extensions? SpaceX has not confirmed whether this discount will be extended beyond the deadline.
