A new 3D scan post-processing tool in Creaform Metrology Suite tackles complex reverse engineering tasks.
Creaform, a business of AMETEK, Inc., announced the release of Scan-to-CAD Pro, a new application module integrated within the Creaform Metrology Suite. It is designed to simplify and improve reverse engineering workflows with a more efficient approach.

Initially launched in 2014, Creaform’s Scan-to-CAD software module is a widely used 3D scan data processing software that provides a connection between 3D scan acquisition and CAD or rapid prototyping (3D printing) software. Now available in two versions, the standard Scan-to-CAD module and the new Scan-to-CAD Pro module include algorithms for extracting information from meshes, flexible alignment, mesh editing tools, and enhanced selection capabilities. Both versions offer different features, allowing professionals to select the one best suited to their reverse engineering workflow.
With enhanced features, including 2D sketching and 3D modeling tools, the new Scan-to-CAD Pro provides a connection between 3D scanning and CAD software, such as SOLIDWORKS. It facilitates the conversion of 3D scan data into an accurate CAD model and, in some cases, supports an integrated workflow within a single software module. Scan-to-CAD Pro enables efficient feature extraction and CAD modeling from 3D scan data, helping manufacturers improve efficiency in product design. It reduces the need for multiple design iterations, particularly for complex geometries. When used with Creaform’s 3D scanners, it helps streamline the transition from scanning to CAD modeling, improving workflow efficiency.
