Hi there I work in an archaeology lab as a student. My boss has recently been interested in using technology to catalog the collection and I just off hand mentioned 3d scanning. Well looks like now I have more work on my plate.
Ive done some basic research but a lot of the products seem to have tons of negative and positive reviews. I’m not sure what to believe. Also my boss said there isn’t any funding to buy new equipment so I’m looking at grants. This severely limits my budget and we don’t want to spend a ton of money on something that might not actually work for our needs.
We would like to scan objects that range from a coin to items around a 18 inches. Most of the objects would have small details and be under 8 inches though.
Any recommendations for sub 500 scanners? Maybe something around 250 dollars or ones that would be good to find used to try out? This is mostly just an experiment and if I can do a nice write up then more funding can come for a better scanner.
