A recent report said Samsung has been approved for new patents, suggesting that Samsung is expected to commercialize triple-fold mobile phones.
According to the latest published list by the United States Trademark and Patent Office (USPTO), the patent was filed in July 2021 and approved for entry into force in November 2024. It contains 25 pages on maintaining screen durability and toughness in the trifold state.
The design features a dedicated isolation layer with strategic openings that reduce pressure on the screen and make folding easier. Durable materials such as stainless steel or glass are used for the support plate and adhesive layer to enhance the equipment’s stability.
Samsung has incorporated an anti-reflective layer into the display panel, which aims to reduce the impact of reflected light on users. In addition, a multi-layer structure is designed under the screen, including a barrier layer and a buffer layer, to prevent damage to the screen caused by external substances.
