The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has announced that Saudi Arabia will host the inaugural Olympic Esports Games in 2027, with a pre-event kicking off in 2025. This strategic move follows Saudi Arabia’s significant investment in esports, highlighted by the successful Esports World Cup that attracted 500 million viewers last year. The IOC will collaborate with the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee (SOPC) and the Esports World Cup Foundation to establish a competitive framework. The Road to the Olympic Esports Games will start later this year, paving the way for global esports athletes to compete on an unprecedented stage.
Are you excited about esports being included in the Olympics? What impact do you think this will have on the gaming community?
